Three insights from MVNOs World 2026

A panel at MVNOs World 2026

MVNOs World is a global event bringing together sector leaders to share insights about current and emerging trends. Cinzia Fradale shares three main themes emerging from MVNO World 2026.

Every year, some of the world’s leading MVNOs and ecosystem partners including tech enablers, AI innovators and telcos gather for MVNOs World. This year, I joined the 2026 event in Amsterdam. At this kind of international industry conference there is always so much to learn from peers in other markets. With that in mind, here are my main takeaways from MVNOs World 2026.

1. The importance of brand and differentiation

The strongest theme at this year’s event was the importance of differentiation for MVNOs. Competition in the MVNO sector is fierce, particularly in Europe. The consensus from conversations in the sessions and on the conference floor was that MVNOs need to move beyond simply selling mobile plans. Brand identity, connectivity, and customer experiences remain key to future growth. High growth MVNOs are building their brand around trust, belonging, customer experience and clear purpose.

Delegates heard that sustainable growth and market share will be based on how MVNOs build a link between their brand, connectivity, and their customers’ everyday life. In some cases, MVNOs are nurturing partnerships with retail, banking, travel, utilities, ecommerce, sports clubs and digital platforms. These partnerships create customer stickiness and new revenue streams for both parties.

Empowered by the modern tech stack, enablers, or MVNEs can now offer increasing levels of service for MVNOs. We’ve seen enablers that provide the platforms for brands to offer mobile services without investing in bespoke provisioning, onboarding or billing services. Now a new wave of enablers is serving other parts of existing and emerging MVNO businesses. This includes relaunching MVNO brands and sharpening value propositions through better data and AI tools to target niche customer segments down to the post code level.

2. Technology is reshaping the MVNO model

As MVNOs consider how to differentiate, technology is creating new opportunities to help them do so. Technologies including Artificial Intelligence, APIs and the forthcoming RCS offer the possibilities of new experiences and services.

APIs were a big topic of discussion because of how they can help MVNOs create new experiences. Network APIs make signals available to applications and services for the first time. The growing availability of CAMARA standard network APIs, delivered through network API aggregator Aduna, enables MNOs and MVNOs to use network intelligence to create new capabilities.

It’s important that MVNOs embed new technologies across their business model. This will help create opportunities beyond boosting operational efficiency, to enhance customer value, security, authenticity and overall experience.

Network APIs enable capabilities such as number verification and SIM Swap detection on Telstra Wholesale’s platform. These are strong examples of how technology is expanding the value that an MNO can offer an MVNO across customer experience, security and overall value.

3. eSIM as more than a nice-to-have

eSIM has been a feature of MVNOs World for several years now. Last year, we heard about the promise of eSIM and the importance of executing its processes well.

This year, the topic has moved on. Activation processes for eSIM are increasingly being simplified (or ‘app-ified’). eSIM is now more than a useful alternative for early adopters – it is a growth engine for MVNOs. However, customer education, simple onboarding processes, strong activation journeys and deep integration into value bundles were identified as critical to continuing adoption.

4. The best of the rest

A three-day global event is going to have a lot of discussion points. MVNO World was no different. Discussions about regulation demonstrated that MVNOs in every market face challenges with ‘must-do’ compliance requirements.

Satellite connectivity was a subject of some curiosity – people are watching closely as this emerging connectivity option matures.

Finally, a recurring theme was the importance of trust and partnerships. Strong MNO-MVNO partnerships remain essential. Healthy wholesale partnerships depend on trust, communication, flexibility and shared goals.

Optimism without complacency

Coming away from the event, I was optimistic about the diversity, strength and innovation within Australia’s MVNO sector. In many ways, Australian MVNOs set an example for others around the world to follow. But that doesn’t mean there is room for complacency as the market and technology that underpins the sector continues to evolve.

In today’s competitive market, experience and brand matter most. MVNOs should consider how they build distinct identities, create compelling value propositions, and deliver high-quality end user experiences to stand out in this market. Getting brand representation, connectivity, technology and customer support ecosystem right, helps mobile businesses continue to be profitable.

We support MVNOs navigate the increasingly complex telecommunications landscape by combining a robust network platform with advanced technical capabilities helping protect end users from risks like scam or fraud.

Backed by deep technical expertise, ongoing product development, and a strong partner ecosystem, we enable MVNOs operate efficiently, innovate, differentiate, and respond to emerging market trends with confidence.
